SGT Carlos Melgar was deployed to Iraq. His wife, Tammy, was home, taking care of their three boys and had some difficulties with a creditor which caused her to accrue over $1600 in overdraft fees from her bank. Mrs. Melgar was left with no money to pay the mortgage and was facing foreclosure on the family home. On Thanksgiving, she had no money for the usual Thanksgiving dinner and took her boys to the Palmer Auditorium for the free Thanksgiving meal, crying the whole time. She contacted the TXNG Family Support Foundation, explaining the situation and was given a $500 grant which kept her from losing their home and having to live in a van with her three boys. "First of all I would like to say thank you so much for thinking of my family during the 2007 Christmas Holiday. It helped me out a lot, it meant so much to me. I helped me and my girls out a lot through the holidy. I don't know what I wouldv'e done. The Texas National Guard Family Support Foundation is such a wonderful and loving group of people...so i am writing to say thanks so much!! I'll never forget you al! Happy Holidays to you all! God Bless you all, Love, P. Martinez and my three girls!!!" "Thank you so much for the gift card to Wal Mart. It has been a couple of rough weeks since my husband has returned from Iraq. We were able to buy food and put some towards our Christmas this year, for the kids. Thank you. Sincerely, Lewis Family"
